Hallows' Eve Hike

We set out for an AM hike this morning, before trick-or-treaters made their presence known by ringing our doorbell repeatedly and slamming the door knocker obnoxiously.  My sister and I convinced my mom to come along, too.  She's never seen this part of the woods before, and, with the fall foliage at its height, now was the time to go.  Who doesn't love some natural color?

It was unbelievably beautiful.  Really.  Be prepared for lots of photos.

It's not a long hike at all; maybe 20 minutes each way.  We didn't want to stay long, in case kids took their Halloween mischief in to the forest.  Thankfully, we only saw one older couple as we climbed upward, and had the entire place to ourselves.

The forest was ablaze in reds and yellows.

The pup liked it, too.

We detoured a bit on the way down, instead of just heading right back to the car.  The woods were so bright, the air so refreshing.. and Marge was yanking my arm off with enthusiasm!

I posed her on a couple of rocks, but she took it upon herself to jump on this boulder, which is a remnant from the Ice Age, 50,000 years old.  I guess she likes the view?

It was a spectacular slice of time spent surrounded by nothingness.  Like all things, it came to an end, and we crossed the road back to civilization.  Until next time.

Happy Halloween!

That's such a beautiful hike. I love seeing all the foliage. We're down in the "Pinelands Preserve" and unfortunately the pine needles don't change pretty colors. I'd like to take a drive with Layla someplace nice to see fall colors before all the leaves are gone.

Trick or Treaters set of chaos in our house. We count on it as a night of non stop barking.

Good thing you got to enjoy the leaves this weekend! Ours are all on the ground already. I'm sure yours won't be far behind. I swear I thought it was snowing today.....

I hope Marge survives Halloween ok. I'm lucky, we don't get any trick or treaters at our house.

Wonderful outing! I bet Marge loved all those nice smells in the woods.

I had almost forgotten what the fall colors look like in the East. I love the variety of colors with reds mixed in! But, I love that photo of Marge looking straight at you the most of all!

I'm glad that you had such a great hike and I hope that Marge had an OK Halloween evening.

Anna the GSD November 1, 2010 at 12:09 PM

Yay! A fun, pretty family outing! So much to smell in all the leaves and so much to see!

Roxanne @ Champion of My Heart November 1, 2010 at 2:02 PM

Looks terrific. It's wild to see trees there with so many leaves still. Ours are mostly barren already, from the return of winter winds, snow, etc.

Gus, Louie and Callie November 1, 2010 at 6:03 PM

You are so right it is so beautiful.. Wish Texas had Fall colors.. The leaves just turns brown and fall of the trees..
