The Perfect Storm

We're experiencing some of the worst wind I've ever seen in my life. The fence on one side of our house is starting to go, my father says the antenna on top of the house is about to blow off, and, to top it off, my grandmother's enormous pine tree came crashing onto her roof late this afternoon (she's OK, and there probably isn't much damage, but it's still a scare).

The weather normally does not faze Marge, but this storm is bothering her. The wind has been whipping at sustained speeds of 40 mph for the entire day. Potty breaks are NOT fun - she tried to pee before and witnessed a backyard chair get kicked up by the wind. Suffice to say, she is not taking kindly to going out right now, which might become a problem - she's due for a poop.

My family is coming and going from my house, going outside to collect things before they blow away, inspect damage, and the like. I don't like the commotion, and I don't think Marge does, either.

Here's a real-time photo - she's been hunkered down next to me in this corner for the majority of the day. Those are my fleece PJ pants you see there. Notice the ears back and big, sad eyes. I think she wants this to be over with!

For all of you experiencing this storm, be careful! There are road closings, trees down, and power outages all over my city. Stay inside and ride it out safely with your fuzzy friends.

You can't blame Marge for hunkering down or being leery of the storm. If it is rattling the humans, just imagine what it's like to be an animal - you can't understand what is happening or why or when it will stop. Give her a little kiss and a big hug from me!

BTW, Scout and Freyja or my cats - NONE of them eat anything from China. I keep anything Chinese away from my pets, me, and my grandchildren. Just too dangerous.

Hmmm...2500 miles away and we have the same deal. Stumpy hides out in her kennel and under the desk, in between bugging me. Both her and my GSD have "held it" for over 24 hours due to weather. i wouldn't worry about it as long as it's her choice.

We've been thinking about you and the others east of us -

We are at the western edge of it all - luckily for us, the winds died down earlier -

Of course, Khyra thought she wanted to be Princess RainKhloud during much of the rain - I finally made her come in after she soaked herself - she's right behind me now and still quite damp

Please be careful and stay safe!

I'd stay inside, too! Lilac is our stormophobe. We know storms are coming long before anyone else does because she starts pacing and panting. Tornado season isn't fun here!

My paws are crossed for you and all you care for to be safe.

Oh Marge, we are so sorry, we know how you feel.

Mom's tried to walk us during the lulls but as soon as we get out it starts to pour again! It's a mess and we don't mean a "hot mess" either.

We can't wait for it to be over, worst part is mom keeps saying we're going to need a bath after this! Woman is nuts we tell you.

Hope it doesn't last too long, stay safe! Quite the different picture from her happy face on Thursday :( poor girly!

Be careful! These storms are scary. We are glad your grandma is OK - she must have got a fright.
Poor Marge - we have seen our garden furniture blown by the wind and that is very scary but we have never had such a bad storm.
Let's hope it blows itself out soon.

Oh, I saw that on the news last night. It looked horrible. Poor Marge.

I'm so sorry about your grandma's house. That must have been extremely scary.

I hope things are calmer this morning.

Poor girl! Wall-e definitely wouldn't like the storm too much either. I hope it's dying down by now!!

Most winters, we have many days of high winds, taking down trees and blowing around garbage cans (but not so many this year). It's so loud that most people use ear plugs to sleep during it.

K was terrified of the wind in her younger years. Now, she can mostly handle it, except when we're on an exposed peak... Maybe Marge will get used to it... or maybe not, if you don't get it regularly.

Oh, that is scary. Wind can be a powerful thing, and not just the dog kind that can clear a room! ;-) But seriously, I hope the storm settles down soon with no more scares.

This is certainly a most fierce storm upon us. We are all staying inside and hoping it stops. Even PeeWee doesn't want to be out there with everything all blowing around.

Oh...poor Marge. It sounds like that storm would scare anydoggie! Has it passed you by yet? I hope everything is okay!

Boy, I do not blame Marge for being scared, you guys take care of yourselves and be careful. We had a wind like that a couple of years ago and it blew the roof off our house, and blew out fence down the street. now the wind blowing like that scares me bad. Please be careful!

Lorenza March 15, 2010 at 2:11 AM

With all that mess the wind is causing there I can understand Marge!
I hope that storm goes away soon!
Glad your grandmother is ok!
Take care
Kisses and hugs

How are you all doing, I was watching the news when they were talking about the storms and I was thinking about you....hoping you were ok, and had power ;-).

AC March 15, 2010 at 3:02 PM

I hope your weather is better today! Kona does amazingly well with wind. I think i'm scared of it much more than she is!

It looks like you two took the right route-hunkering down and waiting it out.

Sam March 15, 2010 at 3:09 PM

We're here! The winds died down, we have some damage around the city, but we're OK. Post to come soon!
