Washy Wednesday
In order to look her best for her big day on Friday (and also to keep the peace with my mother, who doesn't enjoy dog hair as a condiment the way some of us do), Marge went to the groomer today to be bathed.
Because she is skittish - and HATES being bathed - and also because she doesn't require anything special, I do the washing. It is less stressful for both her and me. Some places have begun offering this "self wash" service, and I think it works well for us.
When we got home, the "fun" didn't end. Marge got her nails done with the Dremel.
Oh, and a tip for those of you with dogs whose elbows tend to lose hair or get calloused - I found a great product a while ago called Bag Balm that keeps the skin soft and prevents the loss of hair. I use it on her paw pads every once in a while, too, just to moisten them a bit (but keep in mind that some roughness is good to prevent injury).
Here is the finished product!

she is super shiny! Our daycare in AK offered grooming and self wash. They also rented clippers so if you wanted to shave down a long haired dog you could just do it yourself
She looks great! I've got "bath envy" as both of mine are in need of a good scrubbing.
I'm looking forward to hearing about the big day on Friday!
Good luck!

She looks great! Now you just have to keep her all clean until the show!
First of all, I have to tell you that I love the name Marge for a dog! Too cute! How wonderful that you found Marge and gave her a chance to have wonderful life in a nice, caring home.
We have a lot in common because as of May 30, 2010, my fiance & I will celebrate our coonhound's birthday. I noticed that you've had your Marge for about the same amount of time and I fully understand what it's like to have a dog who is afraid of certain things and I understand that it takes patience to help dog's overcome their fears. I think I'm going to start a blog about Daisy, our coonhound, so I can focus on her story, just as you have.
Wow!! She looks great. Very shiny.
I'm excited about the show!! I'm definitely going Saturday but I'm debating going Friday too.
I'm glad that you plan on doing a quick release in the future too. NOBODY where I train uses one or plans to, but now I feel better about it.
She looks great and I'm so glad to hear that her leg is feeling better. I can't believe that your trial is just a couple days away. Try to relax and have fun, easier said than done, I know.
Yes, to answer your question, there is a chance that Samba's paralysis is temporary. Her newest bloodwork looks great and her eyes are still good, so there's a pretty good chance.
Hello ... Just read your comment and I appreciate it so much! I think I will blog about Daisy because her story needs to be told! Thanks for the comment about Daisy...she does have a beautiful face, in my opinion! Daisy came from a kill shelter and was bounced around for awhile too. No one wanted her for such a long time until we came along. You can view her story on this link...http://theteacherspets.blogspot.com/2010/02/dumpr-photo-fun.html

Marge,
You look grrreat! Riley's ears just perked up and he yelled Grrreat legs!
We bet you'll be fighting off the bo-dawgs like crazy this weekend!
Lol!
Luv,
Riley and Star.
Marge you look sooo pretty. I know about that bag balm stuff. My mom uses it on HER feet and hands in the winter. I like to smell it.
She's so shiny and beautiful! I just bathed our three yesterday- there is nothing better than a clean pup :)
Marge! You look beautiful!
I guess my mom needs to find some of that Bag Balm. I suffer that problem with my elbows!
Take care
Kisses and hugs

Bag Balm is an old Yankee favorite. It's great stuff. Speaking of great stuff, Marge looks no worse for the wear! :)
What a beaWOOty!
Thanks fur sharing!

Ooooohhhhh - so shiny!! I think that is shiny furs of Brutastic proportions! We love BagBalm too - works great to keep Brute's nose from getting all scaly and gross. Don't think there's any end to the parts that a little bagbalm can make better!!

Marge looks so sleek, I'm sure it will shave seconds off her time this weekend!
My dogs think getting washed is torture. But Guiness loves rolling in this mud puddle that sometimes froms in the yard. Go figure. Diana
Marge! You look fantastic! So shiny clean. Good luck.
Slobbers,
Mango
Woof! Woof! WOW ... You look very refresh. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
Look how sleeky and shiny Marge is! Surely that will help her fly through her performance with ease?
So shiny! Simply booty-full!
WHOA! She is the Most Shiniest Dog I have ever ever seen! I think I need some Doggles to shade my eyes from all that shininess.
Did you know my mom has never given me a proper bath cuz she's worried it will freak me out too much. (And let's let her keep believing that, shall we?) So she wipes me down with washcloths and uses waterless shampoo and brushes me. But she keeps mentioning the dreaded "B" word so who knows?
Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie
Wow! Marge is shiney, and I know shiney things! Lookin' good girlfriend!! You could be on ANTDM, or America's Next Top Dog Model!
SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS!!!! I wish we had the self wash places here, we used to have one years ago but it went out of business before I got a chance to try it. Those are the best idea. OOH dear Dremmeling and nails, my dogs say they are sorry Marge, they feel for her about that!
We are going to be cheering for you two from here in CA, if you hear yelling from our direction, it will be us-have a GREAT TRIAL and mostly just HAVE FUN!!!!
I bet you are smelling mahvalous

She looks terrific.
Marge is so beautiful and shiny!
Marge is sure to impress at the trial! (Although that's quite the bewildered look she has on her face=) Still can't wait to hear how it goes.
I'm such a chicken when it comes to grooming Kona. To my defense, Kona doesn't take it well at all and I often end up with a dog that's scared of me for the rest of the day! I really admire that you were able to get Marge through all that primping.
ps-That's strange that the email came up blank. I just sent you a thank you-the info you sent was great and I'm looking into getting Kona started on something...I'll let you know!
She looks lithe, strong, sleek, shiny, and just plain beautiful!!!
We've only ever had our dogs groomed once in 22 years. We had the bright idea to stop at a cranberry bog (we lived in New England) on our way home from the groomer. I think that you can visualize the rest of the story... mud-covered dogs emerging from the bog!
A bath AND your nails!?!? Oh, MARGE! Are you OK?!?!? I'd probably horka and then not eat for a couple meals. I'm like that.
You do look very nice, though.
Love,
Ammy
I always thought Marge had a beautiful, shiny coat -- but wow, here it's even more so! Beautiful!
She looks better than ever!
I need to find a product like that, the elbows are a sensible area!
Have a great weekend!
Wow, now Marge is ready for her BIG day! Good luck with the trial!!
